# What filament is best for supports / support interfaces?

For easy breakaway interfaces, print the model in one material and the support interface in another that does not bond well to it (commonly PLA model with PETG interface, or PETG model with PLA interface); dedicated support filaments such as Bambu Support for PLA need a multi-material system (AMS or equivalent).

There is no universal best support filament. Match the interface to the model material.

## PLA and PETG interfaces

A PLA model with a PETG interface, or a PETG model with a PLA interface, is the breakaway pair in the summary. [PLA Basic](/brand/bambu-lab/pla-basic) lists 190–230 °C (374–446 °F) and 35–45 °C (95–113 °F). [PETG HF](/brand/bambu-lab/petg-hf) lists 230–260 °C (446–500 °F) and 65–75 °C (149–167 °F). Print each material inside its own row. [PETG prints](/answers/petg_print) and [PLA prints](/answers/pla_print) are the model-material guides.

[Bambu PETG Matte](/brand/bambu-lab/petg-matte) is a poor PLA interface. The US store page says it is not recommended as a support for PLA and points to Bambu PETG Basic. [PETG Basic](/brand/bambu-lab/petg-basic) has no nozzle or bed temperature in our sources, so this page does not invent one.

## Dedicated support filaments

[Support for PLA](/brand/bambu-lab/support-for-pla), [Support for PLA/PETG](/brand/bambu-lab/support-for-pla-petg), [Support for ABS](/brand/bambu-lab/support-for-abs), and [Support for PA/PET](/brand/bambu-lab/support-for-pa-pet) are separate SKUs. The catalog files each of them under PVA. Use the row whose name matches the model. All four need a second material path. [AMS filaments](/answers/ams) is the fit question for Bambu's multi-material system. A single-material machine stays on same-material supports.

## PVA

[Bambu PVA](/brand/bambu-lab/pva) lists 180–210 °C (356–410 °F) and 50–60 °C (122–140 °F), with a drying maximum of 80 °C (176 °F) and no hours in our sources. [PolyDissolve S1](/brand/polymaker/pva-polydissolve-s1) lists 215–225 °C (419–437 °F), a bed of 25–60 °C (77–140 °F), and drying at 80 °C (176 °F) for 12 h. Neither row stores a dissolve time on this page.

## Same-material supports

Tree supports in the model material are enough when the overhang can spare a small scar and you have one extruder. The Bambu thread about tree settings is that case. It does not replace an interface when the surface has to come out clean.

## What two of the threads are

The color-change thread is about filament swaps painted into a support, not about which plastic releases. The X1C thread filed here is a bed-adhesion complaint. Bed adhesion has its own guide. Those comments are why this page refuses a single winner.

## What the community says

The editorial summary is to use a different material as the support interface, PLA under a PETG model or PETG under a PLA model, so the interface breaks away. The bank also names PVA and Bambu Support for PLA, with the caveat that a dedicated support filament needs a multi-material system. Comments we can read ask which materials were in a photo, or talk about color changes and bed adhesion. Those comments do not name a winning support filament.
